Anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) were initially created for therapeutic purposes, and synthetic derivatives of the male hormone testosterone. Due its great anabolic effects, these drugs are being used on a large scale, for the improvement of sports performance. In this present study, we aim to show the history of it’ use, present their mechanisms of action, more particularly its use correlate with improved body composition, muscle mass, aerobic capacity and verify their possible side effects, analyzing their use therapeutic and indiscriminate, through direct scientific research with the sports. Sources were reviewed scientific the following search engines: PUBMED, LILACS and SCIELO. The results showed that in presence of a suitable AAS and diet can contribute to increases in body weight, particularly lean body mass and muscle strength gains achieved by high intensity exercise, these effects can be further potentiated, the use of supraphysiological doses, but in the aspect of aerobic power, there are not scientific evidence to support their improvement. Regarding side effects, the use of AAS, is related to several complications in the liver, cardiovascular system, reproductive system and psychological characteristics, always assigned by the non-therapeutic and abuse of AAS. Thus we conclude that the use of AAS, are directly linked to gains muscle mass, strength, as well several side effects, always assigned to abusive and indiscriminate doses, it is noteworthy that the scientific literature, still has a certain lack of studies, mainly randomized, controlled, with supraphysiological doses in human, so many effects are still unknown.
As insecticides and pest controlling agent: Neem has been used historically to rid the body of several forms of ectoparasites and pests and the action is rapid. Hormone mimicking activities of neem extracts causes interference with the parasitic life cycle inhibiting their ability to feed as well as prevent the hatching of eggs ( Kumar and Navaratnam, 2013 ). Neem plant contents have been reported to be an effective bioinsecticide ( Chary, 2011 ) and found useful in the control of many insect species of medical and veterinary and importance, nearly 400 insect species including of flies, Amblyomma variegatum , spruce budworm Choristoneura fumiferana , lice, head louse, shaft louse ( Menopon gallinae ), feather louse ( Lipeurus caponis , or Columbicola sp.), spiders, mosquitoes, triatomines, cockroaches, fleas, beetles ( Alphitobius diaperinus , Dermestes bicolor and Dermestes lardarius ) and nematodes ( Schmutterer, 1990 ; Lyons et al ., 1996 , 1998 ; Wanner et al ., 1997 ; Mulla and Su, 1999 ; Makeri et al ., 2007 ; Karunamoorthi et al ., 2009 ; Lucantoni et al ., 2010 ; Kudom et al ., 2011 ; Mehlhorn et al ., 2011 ; Abdel-Ghaffar et al ., 2012 ; Al-Quraishy et al ., 2012a , b ; Walldorf et al ., 2012 ). Neem extract and neem powder have been used by the urban people of African countries as mosquito repellant ( Karunamoorthi et al ., 2009 ) and for the control mosquito ( Culex quinquefasciatus ) breeding in anthropogenic habitats ( Kudom et al ., 2011 ). Nanoemulsion of neem oil and Tween 20 were found as potent and selective larvicide for Culex quinquefasciatus ( Anjali et al ., 2012 ). Neem leaf slurries can also be a sustainable method to reduce the larval density of malaria vector Anopheles gambiae ( Luong et al ., 2012 ). Applications of neem cake at 500 kg ha -1 to rice-fields were found helpful in control of culicine mosquito vectors of Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) and along with increase in grain yield ( Rao et al ., 1992 ; Maciel et al ., 2010 ). Neem extracts have got positive effect on regulation of growth as well as repellant activity against which many arthropod ectoparasites are susceptible to. For instance for successful control of both lice as well as ticks along with several mosquito species including significant parasitic diseases vectors neem extract has been found valuable ( Mulla and Su, 1999 ; Garboui et al ., 2006 ; Lucantoni et al ., 2006 ; Habluetzel et al ., 2007 ).
